FACEBOOK PORTAL: The Get Together

Role: Assistant Producer

The BRIEF: Facebook launched the company’s first foray into hardware, Portal from Facebook, a few months after Mark Zuckerberg testified in the Senate Hearings on Data Protection Regulations. The timing couldn’t be worse for a video calling device meant for the home. We needed to humanize the product and show potential customers how Portal could add value to their lives.

THE EVENT: We created the Get Together, a pop-up holiday narrative-driven demo experience celebrating the joy of connection, and encouraging people to use Portal as the tool to bring people separated by distance together. The Get Together was an immersive, theatrical experience within a meticulously designed eleven-room home in the middle of New York City.

In this Instagram-worthy space, rooms connect via Portal to a cast of characters you’ll be able to interact with. Enjoy a cup of hot cocoa with “Grandma.” Grab a cookie, go into the blanket fort and hear “Aunt Lisa” read you a story. You may even be invited into an impromptu dance party.

There was also a professional photographer on hand to take your picture and print it as your holiday card.
